Following last night’s (Group) Lotus Renault GP announcement here is an image showing what the (Team) Lotus Racing car might look like in 2011. So far as we can tell this is an entry into the Lotus Racing livery competition and it was published via twitter last Friday. The scheme has been based on Emerson Fittipaldi’s Lotus 72D which he drove on his way to the 1972 World Championship. Renault SA sole its remaining interest in the Formula One group to Genii Capital, the Luxembourg-based in isolation investment firm. So far, then, this image looks better than the official rendering provided by the other Lotus team. We know we’re probably only getting half of the real story, but to us here at AUSmotive, we hope the Tony Fernandes backed team gets the rights to use the Team Lotus name and that its paintwork ends up looking the best.Genii Capital is already a Renault F1 team’s vital shareholder. The group will race as Lotus Renault GP in 2011 underneath the long-term partnership with Malaysian-owned sports automobile association Group Lotus plc. The team pronounced in a matter which Group Lotus will in the future turn the major equity partner in Lotus Renault GP, which it will co-own with Genii Capital. Car Futuer
2011 is going to be very confusing on the F1 grid, with two Lotus teams on the grid, that have no real connection. One being Lotus Group, and one leasing the naming rights for their private team, from the Lotus Group, confusing enough? Both indicated they wanted to run the John Player Special colours, the Gold on Black look. But now its turned into, whomever launches a livery first wins. So Tony Fernandes’s Lotus (B) team you could call it, will be running the corporate colours of Lotu, Yellow on Green as they did in 2010, with the original badge incorporating Colin Chapmans famous and historic logo (see video below).
